Elder Jinchi
Story Boss — Ancient Temple
Strategy
Phase 1
Elder Jinchi is a ranged-oriented boss who fires golden Buddhist projectiles in circular patterns. His most common attack is a volley of homing orbs that spread outward in a fan shape. Use the pillars in the arena as cover: projectiles cannot pass through them. Strafe around him at medium range and close the gap only when he finishes a volley. His recovery after a projectile barrage lasts about 2 seconds, which is your window to land a full light-attack combo. Watch for his golden beam attack that sweeps horizontally across the arena — sprint to the far side to avoid it.
Phase 2
In Phase 2, Elder Jinchi summons golden orbs that home in on your position. These orbs deal moderate damage individually but can stack quickly if ignored. Destroy them with quick light attacks or a heavy attack sweep before refocusing on the boss. After destroying the orbs, he enters a brief recovery state — punish with your heaviest combos. The Immobilize spell (定身术) is extremely effective here: cast it right after he summons orbs to freeze both him and the orbs in place, giving you free time to deal damage.
The Immobilize Spell (定身术) is your most valuable tool — Elder Jinchi is particularly weak to it. Pair it with a high-mobility staff that lets you close distance quickly after projectile volleys. Avoid magic-damage weapons since he resists them.
Quick Tips
- Use pillars as cover. The arena pillars completely block his projectile attacks. Stay near one and use it to block volleys while closing distance.
- Save big spells for Phase 2. The Immobilize spell is wasted in Phase 1 — save it for Phase 2 orb summons where it provides maximum value.
- Watch the orb summon animation. He raises his staff and glows gold before summoning. This is your cue to get ready to destroy orbs or cast Immobilize.
- Don't chase him. He moves around the arena during Phase 1. Let him come to you or use pillars to funnel his movement.
- Reward: Fireproof Mantle (避火罩). Defeating him grants the Fireproof Mantle, which is essential for the Black Bear Spirit fight. Do not skip this boss.
