Black Bear Spirit
Chapter Boss — Black Wind Cave
Strategy
Phase 1
The Black Bear Spirit uses heavy slam attacks with wide hitboxes. His primary combo is a 3-hit claw sequence: right swipe, left swipe, overhead slam. Dodge roll through the side swipes and wait for the overhead slam to land before punishing. The slam has a long recovery animation where he pulls his arm from the ground — this is your main damage window. He also has a forward fire breath attack in a cone shape. When you see him rear back, sprint to his flank; the fire breath locks him in place for several seconds. Avoid staying directly in front of him at all times.
Phase 2 (HP < 50%)
At 50% HP, the Black Bear Spirit transforms and gains devastating charge attacks. His claw combos now leave fire trails on the ground that persist for several seconds, restricting your movement. He gains a new charging bear rush that covers the full length of the arena — dodge perpendicular to the charge direction. The most dangerous new ability is an area-of-effect fire burst: he slams both hands down and sends a shockwave of flame in all directions. When you see him raise both arms high, immediately create maximum distance. Activate the Fireproof Mantle (避火罩) during this transition to negate the burning ground damage. Focus on hit-and-run: land 2-3 attacks after dodging his combos, then back off. Patience is the key to this phase.
Equip the Fireproof Mantle (避火罩), rewarded from defeating Elder Jinchi, before entering this fight. It is absolutely essential for Phase 2. Pair it with a Fire-enhanced weapon to exploit his fire weakness. A high-dodge build with extended i-frames will help survive his fast Phase 2 combos.
Quick Tips
- Activate Fireproof Mantle at Phase 2 transition. The transformation animation gives you enough time to cast it. This negates all fire trail damage during his most dangerous phase.
- Stay close to avoid the charge. His charge attack only triggers when you're at medium-to-long range. Staying in melee range limits him to his claw combos, which are easier to dodge.
- Heal during recovery windows. After his 3-hit combo or fire breath, he has a long recovery. Use this time to heal if needed rather than attacking greedily.
- Don't lock on during charge attacks. The charge covers too much distance for lock-on camera to track smoothly. Unlock the camera and dodge perpendicular to the charge direction.
- This is the Chapter 1 finale. Defeating the Black Bear Spirit triggers the end-of-chapter cinematic and unlocks Chapter 2: Yellow Wind Ridge. Make sure you've explored everything before entering Black Wind Cave.
